After winning toss, the Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has put India to bat. The beginning overs looked like Lanka made a wrong choice. both Rohit and Dhawan looked formidable against Lankan pace bowling. Soon enough, Rohit got out LB to Senanayake for just 13 runs. India were 33 then. Kohli then joined Dhawan. Both played quite comfortably. When India was looking on the way to a big score, the in form captain Kohli had a soft dismissal to a Mendis ball. Dhawan continued with his beautiful touch, but was not supported by any other batsmen. Rahane was next to go for 22. Dhawan too fell for Mendis having made 94, just missing an otherwise beautiful century. After that, Lankan batsmen took wickets at regular intervals, reducing India to 264 for nine. Mendis shined for Lanka with four wickets. Senanayake ended up with three.
Lanka started their reply confidently. Pereira and Thirimane scored fluently till Thirimane fell LBW for an Ashwin ball. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja could not hold a catch in the outer field. presently, Lanka is at 82 for 1 in the 18th over.
India will have to bowl very well to defend it’s total as Lanka has some good batsmen yet to come.
