India sends Vice President: China responds with map claiming Arunachal

An Indian Vice President is visiting China after a gap of 20 years, the last was KR Narayanan’s visit in 1994! As Vice President Hamid Ansari is busy getting grand receptions, China quietly pulled out a map claiming almost all of Arunachal Pradesh and most of Ladakh as its integral parts. China’s claims over Arunachal have not been new. India-China war of 1962 happened just over this. China constantly brings it back into focus by giving stapled Visas to citizens of Arunachal, as it is “Southern Tibet” as per its claims.

Just before bringing out this “cartographic attack” on India, Chinese soldiers visited the Panang lake in Ladakh, camped there few hours in a renewed proclamation of its ownership, before being driven out by Indian soldiers. China has border dispute with almost all South China sea – Asia neighbors, including with Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Bhutan and India.

Indian authorities were quick to respond to Chinese claims of Arunachal Pradesh. “Arunachal Pradesh is inalienable part of India has been conveyed to Chinese authorities on several occasions including highest level,” said MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

Vice President Hamid Ansari is scheduled to meet the Chinese Premiere Li Keqiang, President Xi Jinping during this trip.
