Indian American may become Secretary of State

2000-nReports suggest that Nikki Haley, South Carolina’s Indian-American Governor, is the front runner for the post of US Secretary of State in President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet.

The 44-year-old daughter of Indian immigrants, she would bring both racial and gender diversity to Trump’s cabinet.

But she has a tough opponent as former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani is also a strong contender for the position.

Donald Trump is picking up fresh faces and Haley’s choice is one among them, although lack of experience may be a minus point for her.

“Secretary of state is going to be a bit of a stretch for Haley’s area of expertise. Haley has yet to be vetted about foreign policy, trade and protectionism,” said College of Charleston political scientist Kendra Stewart.
