Suspended DMK leader, Karunanidhi’s elder son MK Alagiri has said that he is being vilified unfairly. “Some forces in the party are not allowing Kalaingar (Karunanidhi) to function as party president. They are harassing the president of the party,” he said in front of his scores of supporters in Madurai this morning.
He had a meeting of his supporters amidst growing rumors that he is ready to announce a party. There were banners put up by his supporters saying “Kalaingar DMK is ready to be born!” His recent meetings with PM Man Mohan Singh, Rajini Kanth and then with Rajnath Singh offering support to BJP in Southern Tamilnadu, have attracted enough attention towards him.
Alagiri had been unsatisfied with the growing power of his younger brother Stalin in the party for quite some time. When most of his supporters were not given tickets from his stronghold South region, he took up the issue with his father. “I told him dismissing my supporters is like dismissing me. He listened to me. Then you all know what happened later. I was also suspended.”
His supporters in today’s meeting have accused the high command of going against the wishes of the cadre, and they have called for firm actions to counter this, will Alagiri go all against his father?
