Supreme Court has instructed the State Election Commission to file an Interim Petition requesting postponement of elections to Territorial Council elections. The case came to the SC bench again today after the recent declaration of poll schedule following the earlier instructions of SC. The SC questioned the attitude of the State Election Commission as to why it had released the notification when it knew it would be difficult to conduct the elections.
R Chandra Shekhar Reddy, the advocate who approached the Supreme Court over the issue is insisting that the State EC must conduct the elections now. Any delay would bring in the confusion of reservations to be redrawn again as the new state would come into existence officially, he said. He felt that the political parties are asking for the postponement only with the view to hold their cadre properly and keep them together with the lure of power before the general elections. He has derided the attitude of all parties with regard to these important local body elections.
The State EC is said to be considering to approach the SC again tomorrow with the interim petition.
