In order to compete with advanced countries in quality power supply on 24×7 basis, which is the real base for Investments & Industrial promotion and to expedite the Energy Efficiency (EE) activities for sustainable power supply , the state govt. has decided to adopt world class technologies in the area of EE in the key areas of domestic, municipal street lighting, Agrl., Industries etc., so as to ensure that the fruits of the Energy Conservation (EC) reaches the end consumer.
Accordingly, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has discussed the latest trends in EE with Principal Secretary to CM (Energy) G. Sai Prasad and Principal Secretary, Energy, I&I & CRDA, Ajay Jain, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Saurabh Kumar, decided to launch various programmes along with Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, GoI, during the International Energy Efficiency workshop in Vijayawada, expressed his views in an Open letter to the general public as follows:
“With the unstinted support of people, for the first time the Andhra Pradesh has become a role model in the country in the implementation of EE&EC and has the target of becoming one of the best Energy Efficient State in the World. Our efforts were recognized throughout the world in utilizing the LED technology and AP has been able to achieve tangible results in energy & economic savings.
It’s a matter of pride that GoI has selected AP for conducting the International Workshop on Energy Efficiency at Vijayawada. Within a short span of two years from the launch of Energy Conservation movement on 2nd Oct, 2014 in Vijayawada, we have reached the position of hosting the International summit.
No doubt we have overcome the crisis in power sector, wherein public were severely suffered and were subjected to indiscriminate power cuts and industrial growth stagnated due to power holidays i.e. three days in a week. The AP Govt. has crossed all these hindrances and achieved many a milestones in the sector in the areas of acceleration of power generation, huge capacity addition, drastic reduction of Transmission & Distribution losses, promotion of renewable energy and reached the stage of becoming a Power Surplus State.
We will be in a position to sell 10,472 MU of power per annum to the other states, which yields an income of Rs 4,492 Crs. Now we have to further focus on expediting EE& EC programmes and strive hard to make the State of Andhra Pradesh “Incandescent Free State” by March 2017 which results in multiple benefits like reduction in power demand, Carbon emissions and electricity bills of the consumers apart from protecting the natural resources such as coal, gas, oil etc.,.
My main objective is to achieve two goals i.e.
a) Supply of electricity at affordable prices,
b) Quality power supply at global standards, said the Hon’ble CM.
To achieve this gigantic goal it is contemplated to invest over Rs.1,00,000 Crores in power sector both in private & public sector in the next 5 years which will be a boon for the state economy and would attract huge industrial investments as well as generation of employment. These investments include the following
a) Rs. 28,000Crs for 4000MW Pudimadaka NTPC, Vizag
b) Rs.20,000 Crs for thermal tech (1320 MW), Cemcorp etc in Nellore
c) Rs.11,000 Crs of AP Genco – Krishnapatnam (800MW) + VTPS (800 MW)
d) Rs.30,000 Crs for Solar (2500 MW) & Wind (2500 MW)
e) Rs.25,000 Crs for Transmission & Distribution projects
For implementation of EE activities, the GoI has plans to invest Rs.1000 Crs every year for the next 5 years. In agrl. sector itself, around Rs.5,000 Crs investments are planned for implementing DSM measures in a phased manner with the support of EESL, Govt. of India, which paves the way for enhanced water flow by 15%, energy conservation gain by 30%, increased productivity to the farmers.
The Govt. has contemplated the above Agrl. DSM project across the state to cover all existing pump sets of 15 lakhs. The beauty of the scheme is to provide high quality energy efficient pump sets to farmer without putting a single rupee burden on them.
As a first of its kind in the entire Nation, the Govt. of AP is also implementing Domestic Efficient Fans Programme (DEFP) wherein five-star rated energy efficient Fans are to be distributed to the consumers at affordable prices. The cost of the fan is recovered in upfront basis/monthly instalment of 24 months as per the choice of the consumer. In the initial stage 2 lakhs Fans are going to be offered to the willing consumers.
On this auspicious occasion I earnestly appeal the general public to continue to participate by spreading the message of energy conservation to each and every household. This valuable message will immensely help even the future generation by protecting environment & natural resources and survival of humankind in particular” Chandrababu Naidu appealed.
