IPL betting case postponed by SC

Justice AK Patnaik headed bench investigating the IPL Betting case has adjourned the case to March 25, saying it is yet to study the reply submitted by BCCI on Mudgal committee report.

Justice Mukul Mudgal committee was formed by the Supreme Court to investigate the betting, fixing allegations on IPL. Justice Mudgal submitted a 171 page report in which he concluded that Gurunath Meiyappan, team official and face of Chennai Super Kings, has been complicit in betting and passing of information. Mudgal has also said that Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, team owner of Rajasthan’s roles need be investigated further. The committee has also mentioned names of six prominent cricketers in its report.

Earlier today BCCI requested the SC to not disclose the names of the six cricketers. BCCI had already told the court that it would look into taking action against Meiyappan and others only after a thorough independent investigation.

The progress of the case can have serious impact on IPL and also on N Srinivasn, Chairman of BCCI, uncle of Gurunath Meiyappan and also owner of Chennai team.
