Illegal tap connections have always been a headache with the water board. To add the pain, several irregular connections have been found across the city. In the posh areas like Banjara Hills, Red Hills and Jubilee Hills, several commercial users including Nagarjuna Constructions have been found consuming multiple water connections under domestic category. In a recent finding, a hotel in Red Hills was found using nine domestic water connections.
Suryanarayana, executive director (revenue) of the Water Board, “We recently disconnected the water connection to the office of Nagarjuna Constructions in Banjara Hills. We have been receiving complaints and accordingly disconnecting”.
The eye-raising fact is that in a city that has Lakh of business ventures, only 23,113 commercial tab connections are recorded with the city water board. In the domestic category, 806,076 tap connections are recorded while industrial category records 1,428.
The non-subsidised rates of water supply stands at Rs. 40 per kilo-litre while under the subsidy to the domestic users, the water board supplies a kilo-litre at Rs. 10 only.
