A higher official of Income Tax Department has been arrested on Monday night by the CBI for allegedly accepting bribe.
Deputy Commissioner Income Tax Jai Prakash, posted in Hyderabad, had visited premises of a businessman Sivakumar along with an Income Tax Inspector Ramu where he had allegedly demanded Rs.25 lakh as bribe for settling tax issues, on October 16. On Tuesday, Sivakumar paid Rs. 2 Lakh through his auditor to the Commissioner.
A trap was laid by the CBI’s Anti Corruption Bureau in Hyderabad, when the auditor went to meet the commissioner to pay the remaining amount.
ACB also seized the amount or Rs. 23 Lakh allegedly given to Jai Prakash as bribe.
