The Finance Minister of the state and the former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will take over as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after J Jayalalithaa has been sentenced for 4-year prison by a special court in Bangalore.
O Panneerselvam has been the favourite of Jayalalithaa in the party and was always considered as the next to ‘Amma’ in AIADMK.
A representation of senior leaders met Jayalalithaa in the jail where she has suggested the party leaders to appoint Panneerselvam as the Chief Minister. Panneerselvam, Natham R.Viswanathan, R.Vaithilingam, Edappadi K. Palaniswami met Jayalalithaa in the jai in the morning today.
Reportedly, a meeting of the Legislature Party was held at 3 PM on Sunday and the group of legislators unanimously elected O Panneerselvam as the new Chief Minister.
MLA’s will meet the state Governor K Rosaiah on Sunday evening to give their proposal and it is expected that the new CM will assume his office on Monday.
Panneerselvam had also served as the CM of Tamil Nadu for six months in 2001 when Jayalalithaa was first convicted in another case.
