Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) campus at Masab Tank, Hyderabad students went on a strike to protest the poor state of the management and faculty in the college.
From the beginning of course in 2008, students have faced difficulties with various aspects of college and they complained about the issues to management. One of the major issues is the lack of proper equipment and infrastructure in the campus.
Animation department of Fine Arts haven’t equipped to accommodate 40 students but management takes in 65 students every year. The computer labs, equipments using as teaching devices are outdated and don’t seem support even half strength of the class.
Another concern is the reckless attitude of faculty members towards the students.
Students complaining that faculty members don’t know the subjects they are teaching. Students said, the prescribed syllabus is never taught and the question papers for the exams are altered in the examination hall to the limited syllabus that the faculty taught.
Politics led by the differences in faculty members posed as a threat to the student’s career. Other issues are like late coming of lecturers to college, poor teaching, to threaten students over grades and faculty members mostly use Telugu as a teaching medium, making it difficult to other state students to understand.
Students had a meeting with the Principal and Vice Chancellor regarding these issues, but as the management hasn’t took any action to the issues which have led to the strike. Main priority of strike is replacing existing faculty members with better lecturers.
