Press Council of India Chairman, former SC Judge, Justice Markandeya Katju joined the chorus few days ago when Sachin and Rekha were criticised for not attending Rajya Sabha at all. Katju went a step ahead and questioned the Bharat Ratna to Sachin. He tweeted:
While the worthiness of legends mentioned by Katju is not in question, just like that of many other names that are circulating the media right now, but expecting contribution’s from honorary members to Rajya Sabha goes a bit too far.
Shiv Sena took Katju’s comments in another light, and defended the Bharat Ratna to Maratha Manus Sachin in no uncertain terms. Shiv Sena wrote an article in party magazine “Saamna” and questioned Justice Katju’s contributions as the Chairman of Press Council.
“Sachin and Rekha did not go to the government asking to be nominated to Rajya Sabha. The President nominated them, honouring sports and arts,” reminded the Saamna article, and asked why is the award giving stomach upset to Katju after so many months. It had also opined that the award was given earlier to state level politicians who have not contributed much to the Country. When such awards were not questioned, why should Sachin’s award is causing so much discussion, asked Shiv Sena.
