Kanhaiya Kumar, President of JNU students union, was prevented from entering the campus of Hyderabad Central University to express solidarity to the agitating students who demand the recall of Vice Chancellor Dr P Appa Rao. When Kanhaiya reached the main gate of the university along with large number of students belonging to left-wing unions, tens of armed police men have blocked his vehicle and asked him to go away. A verbal altercation by some of the students with the police officials took place and the students urged the security forces to allow just four students along with Kanhaiya inside but they refused. Rohit Vemula’s mother has also accompanied Kanhaiya.
The leader from Delhi has addressed the students from atop the vehicle. “You cannot suppress our voice.. you cannot suppress democracy or free speech. We want justice, we want social justice” he said. He raised slogans of long live democracy, we want justice, the VC should go… and students gave a chorus to it. “Since students damaged the Vice Chancellor chamber and some adjoining rooms, no outsiders will be allowed and moreover, the VC too has sought our help to stop outers from entering. We followed the orders” police clarified.
