KCR: TS formed due to Ambedkar’s legislation

KCRTS-formed-due-to-AmbedkaTelangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao proclaimed that but for Ambedkar, a separate state would not have been possible. “During the course of debate in Constitution Assembly in 1946, a question cropped up on who should be the deciding authority when some part of a state wants separation. Except Ambedkar, the rest of 243 members said with one voice the decision should be left to the concerned state. Ambedkar differed with the view and argued that the power should vest with the Centre. He sought for a day’s time and penned down the reasons for his argument and placed before the members the next day. He said- ‘there may be majority and minority voices and naturally the majority view will prevail. In such a scenario, the long-cherished dream of those who seek bifurcation- who are a minority- will never become reality. If the power is vested with the Centre, if the power to divide a state is given to Parliament which have an all-India representation, then there is a fair degree of justice’. Ambedkar’s views were overwhelmingly accepted and accordingly Article 3 was drafted. This paved way for creation of Telangana. So the Telangana society owes a lot to Ambedkar” KCR said at the programme after laying foundation stone for the 125-ft tall statue of the legendary visionary near NTR gardens in Hyderabad today.
