Khammam Villages Merger rock’s Telangana Assembly

asambilyHyderabad: The Telangana assembly witnessed clash amongst ruling and opposition parties over the merger of seven mandals.The congress party blamed TRS government for failing to stop the merger, the ruling party hit back stating that the decision was taken by the UPA.
During Question hour, saying that the Telangana state not only lost ‘seven’ mandals to AP but also lost the Lower Sileru hydro-electric project, Congress member Ajay Kumar wanted to know the steps being taken to get due share of electricity for Telangana from the project.
Heated exchanges took place over the issue leading to the Congress party walking out from the Assembly House. BJP evoked a protest when Chinna Reddy of the Congress blamed union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu for the merger of Telangana villages with Andhra.
A Bill was passed in July 2014 by the parliament to transfer seven ‘mandals’ comprising 136 villages and 211 hamlets to facilitate construction of Polavaram project across the Godavari River to the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Despite strong objection from Telangana, the NDA government went ahead with the merger
