A determined Virat Kohli has thwarted Australia’s plans to block India’s sailing into semi finals with a spectacular unbeaten knock of 82. in a crucial Super 10 match at Mohali on Sunday night. But for his brilliant knock of 82 off 51 balls, India would not have entered the semis.
The host country has defeated Australia by six wickets. Earlier Australia scored 160 runs off 20 overs.
Chasing a modes target of 161, India lost three quick wickets- Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina but Yuvaraj and Kohli steadied the innings by taking singles . Yuvraj, apparently suffering from an ankle pain, was out soon after India crossed 100. Kohli was joined by captain MS Dhoni and both of them kept the scoreboard moving till the 17th over with only singles.
At one point of time, India appeared to lose the game with a required run rate of 12 runs per over.
Kohli changed his bat and pulled up his socks to guide India to a commendable win by smashing as many as 10 fours in the penultimate overs. Dhoni extended his support in KOhli’s knock.
With this, India entered the semi finals with six points behind New Zealand. It will play England in the semis.
