Krishna Water Allocation Tribunal, headed by Brajesh Kumar has ruled that the water that was allocated to the erstwhile combined state shall be shared by both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as per the provisions of the AP Reorganization Act, 2014.
The Tribunal has given its verdict today. It made it clear that Karnataka and Maharasthra have no claim in the distribution of water that was earlier allocated to combined state of AP.
The Union water resources ministry has also supported that the water allocation shall be only for AP and Telangana.
The Tribunal has asked both the Telugu states to state their stand in the form of an affidavit in four weeks and posted the matter for November 14.
Basing on Bachawat Tribunal recommendations, the Brajesh Kumar panel has, in a ruling given on November 29, 2013- allocated share of water on the ratio of 65 per cent of availability of water and also about surplus water. The then combined state of AP filed an objection in Supreme Court in January, 2014. Later, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana have also filed an affidavit stating that they would like to implead in the case. It is still pending in the apex court.
