It was a cool like cucumber fastest hundred from Sangakkara the main reason for India’s loss against Lanka yesterday. Few chances missed, couple of decisions going against India also hurt India badly. Kohli also mentioned the dew later in the evening having played a role. As the team scored a good twenty-thirty runs less, it was at a disadvantage even before Lanka began batting. Added to that, Sangakkara was on a song before and after he was given life by keeper Kartik when he was on 30. The three wicket spell by Jadeja brought India strongly into the game but Sangakkara steadily took the game away from India. Lack of direction and sting in Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Shami to some extent left few chances for the temporary skipper Kohli.
Kohli did not effectively use his bowlers. When dew was clearly increasing, giving five last overs to pace bowlers is mismanagement of his bowlers by the captain. He was clearly seen cursing and yelling during these final overs, which is not confidence inducing at all. Probably that’s why Lankan captain Angelo Mathews was right in pointing out that India missed Dhoni.
In yesterday’s match, the one factor that India was clearly missing was the coolness and cleverness of Dhoni.
