Top leaders of Telangana have remembered their association and services of Kaka G Venkata Swamy on the occasion of his 87th birth anniversary today. Speaking at a function organized by the state government at Kaka’s statue at the Tank Bund today, they said- Kaka had played a pivotal role in the formation of new state as well as upliftment of the down-trodden.
Irrigation minister T Harish Rao said-“ Kaka is kaka for entire Telangana. I had a special association with him during the days of Telangana movement. When TRS organized a massive rally in Hyderabad, Kaka, a Congress stalwart then, attended it without anyone’s knowledge just to gauge the public mood on the issue of Telangana. Later he revealed it to me and also assured that separate state would be a reality since the youth have been craving for it. The mood is positive”. Kaka has suffered bullet injuries in the 1969 struggle and fought inside the party (CWC) and central cabinet for separate state, Harish lauded.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kadium Srihari and Mehmood Ali have garlanded the statue of Venkata Swamy.
D Srinivas, veteran leader and Rajya Sabha member, said he should be grateful to Kaka for recommending his name to get a ticket to contest in his first election.
Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao said he feels part of Venkata Swamy’s family and remembered the days of working with Venkata Swamy for several years together. “ He (kaka) knew how to utilize the power and talents of a person for public welfare. He firmly believed that when you are in public life you should be strong enough to voice what is just and good for public welfare. He did the same. I appeal to the youth to imbibe the qualities of Kaka and not just confining to paying tributes”
Deputy Chief Minister Kadium Srihari said he would become part of any programme that would be taken up to take the ideals of Kaka to the future generations.
Dr Vivek, former MP and son of Venkata Swamy said-“ When I started Visaka Industries in 1986, he told us, ‘you can represent the management and I will represent the working force here’. Accordingly he started the first labour union of our industries soon after the inauguration of the plant. Such was his commitment for the working class. He was instrumental in retaining the Singareni Companies by removing it from the BIFR, revival of Ramagundam Fertilizers, establishment of Jaipur power plant, proposal for Pranahitha and Chevella project etc. He has also provided shelter to over 75,000 poor people in Hyderabad and also played active role in providing free education to 2000 poor students”.
G Vinod, another son and former minister, thanked Chief minister for providing space in the tank bund vicinity to set up a statue of Kaka and also conducting the celebrations officially.
