Light & Sound show at Konark

Union Minister of State for Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said tourism ministry will make efforts to provide funds for the light and sound shows proposed to be held at Dhauli, Udayagire, Khandagire Caves and at Konark.

Sharma assured Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Odisha, Ashok Chandra Panda in New Delhi that a special media campaign will be mounted to popularize Nabakalebar as an international festival. The campaign will be released in the electronic, print and cyber media, he added.

Panda urged Sharma to start an international flight from Bhubaneshwar International Airport to help promote tourism in the State. Sharma gave an assurance for an early response in this regard. Secretary, Tourism, Lalit Panwar attended the meeting.

Konark Sun Temple dates back to 13th century in Odisha. The temple is believed to have been built by king Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga Dynasty around 1250 AD. It is in the shape of a gargantuan chariot with elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls.
