Liquor sales up

Liquor sales have risen by 20 percent netting an income of Rs 700
crore which is above the target within a month of the new excise
policy announced. More than 12 lakh liquor cases were sold away within
15 days as against 17 lakh liquor cases sold in a month in 2,113
liquor shops and 747 bars and restaurants. Similarly 12 lakh beer
cases were sold out within a fortnight in place of 25 lakh beer cases
in a month. The fall in illicit liquor sales has been attributed to
rise in official liquor sales as the excise raids contained the hooch
consumption to a great extent.
