At a time when Seemandhra lobby is using the names of several freedom fighters, the Constitution itself, BR Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Potti Sreeramulu etc, support for Telangana came from an unexpected quarter. Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson, Tushar Arun Gandhi, chose to voice his opinions on the issue on twitter, tweeted this morning “Telangana is a must. Congress must exhibit courage.” Tushar Gandhi attracted wide attention in 2005 when he reenacted the Dandi March on its 75th anniversary. Seen widely as a conscientious politician too, Tushar’s comments come at a very opportune time.
Tushar Gandhi is a painter, who also runs an NGO named “The Mahatma Gandhi Foundation.” Tushar Gandhi also chose to pass comments on the pepper spray incidents in Parliament. He tweeted on the 13th “Indian MP’s celebrate Valentine’s Eve in Parliament and spice it up with Pepper.” After Lagadapati’s TV appearances that night, he tweeted “New full form of MP Mr. Pepper.”
The tweet by Tushar Gandhi should be a great morale booster for Telangana activists now as all over the national media, the struggle for Telangana is being looked at as an untimely, hurried, poll gimmickry by Congress. Modi has been vilifying the Telangana creation on several pedestals. Even today, speaking at Davangere in Karnataka, Modi said that the Congress is not acceding to the rightful demands of Seemandhra public. He gave a call for sending Congress out of public life.
