MEA team to visit Bengaluru in a day or two

MEAA team of officials of Ministry of External Affairs would soon visit Bengaluru to have a first- hand account of the stripping of a student of Tanzania and paraded naked. This was announced by Sushma Swaraj, foreign minister after chairing a high-level meeting on the safety of African students in the country. The meeting took place after a sharp reaction from Tanzanian High Commissioner Mr John Kigazi who asked the Centre to act tough and ensure safety of the Tanzanian nationals especially the student community. Mr Kigazi and a member of ICCR would also accompany the official team to Bengaluru. The incident further snowballed as the victims complained that they were stripped of in full public glare and had to face the mob’s fury.

But officially, India maintained that the incident was an isolated one and it was a result of a chain reaction following a road accident in which a woman was killed.
