Vishal Sikka, 47 is a Baroda born, Stanford doctorate holder in artificial intelligence. His early work was for Xerox and later he found companies iBrain first and then Bodha later. Bodha worked in the areas of enterprise applications and information integration.
He joined SAP in 2002 and took care of advanced technology and strategic innovations. Soon he was the Chief Software Architect and in 2007, became the CTO of SAP. He oversaw the development of NetWeaver and SOA strategy from that position. He became a member of the Board too. His next major contribution to the company was HANA, High Performance Analytic Appliance, which contributed significantly to SAP’s sales later. He resigned from SAP in May this year.
After accepting his appointment as CEO of Infosys, Sikka tweeted: “Humbled to lead @Infosys an iconic pioneer in IT. Looking fwd to learn & work w/ infoscions & global clients on breakthrough innovation.”
Infosys founder, chief mentor Narayana murthy too welcomed Sikka and tweeted: “Happy to welcome Vishal @vsikka to Infosys. I am confident that Infosys is in capable hands.”
Present CEO, SD Shibulal retires from the position on the 31st of July, and Sikka will take charge the next day. Narayanamurthy, Gopalakrishnan and Murthy’s son Rohan Murthy will also depart from their positions as early as June 14th, giving Sikka full reins of the job. Infosys had been seeing lots of desertions and the market too has been responding to the lack of control and guidance in the company. This should begin a new era in the history of Infosys which is the leader in the $100 billion plus technology outsourcing industry in India.
Vishal Sikka is good friends with Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s current CEO. Sikka is also part of several technology forums and is a member of CTO Forum, a non profit community.
