For all practical purposes the elevated metro rail is expected to serve over 1.5 lakh commuters to travel from one end to another end in the twin cities but the pace of its construction is not as scheduled with the result it has been creating traffic jams at many important junctions. Specifically the narrow path left on either side of the tall pillars constructed to pave the way for the metro trains has forced the RTC fleet to move slowly. In this background the plight of the citizens must be seen to be believed. Not content with the traffic snarls in the city nerve centres the GHMC began a massive civil work to fix giant drainage pipes at the Boats Club near the tank bund. Going by the pace of work it may take another month to open the road for traffic.
Tank bund road serves as a main bridge between the two cities. Though there are a couple of roads linking Secunderabad and Hyderabad, tank bund is considered as the top link between the two cities. The road leading to James Street and Kingsway were blocked by the traffic police. The entire fleet of RTC buses, two, three and four-wheelers were stranded during the peak hours. The entire vehicular traffic has been compelled to take alternative routes to avoid congestion on the road leading to R P Road or Bansilalpet. As it is people are suffering from the acute heat wave conditions. In addition to this the traffic congestions made the life miserable. People lamented over the idea of the GHMC to take up the said works during the summer.
