“Two democracies and a defining partnership of our era! PM meets President Obama,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted with pictures of the two leaders.
The two last met officially when Modi visited Washington in June. They made a brief chit chat during G-20 summit held recently in China.
This is the eighth time the Mr Modi met the US President in the last two years. No other Indian prime minister has ever met the President so many times in such a short span before, according to experts. Both have high regard for each other and the relations between the two nations have risen to a new high. Mr Obama demits office in a few months from now.
The second India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue was held in New Delhi last month.
Earlier on Thursday, Modi addressed both the India-Asean and the East Asia Summits here.
Also Thursday, he met Laotian Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and State Counsellor and Foreign Minister of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
