President of the Country, Sri Pranab Mukherji addressed the joint session of Parliament this morning and gave the inaugural address chalking out the plans and priorities of the new government. These are the main points of his address…
“These elections have been elections of hope. For the first time after 30 years, a clear majority has been accorded to one party. I congratulate the public for spelling out a clear mandate this time. Containing food inflation will be a top priority area for the government. zero tolerance for violence against women, The government will work towards removing rural-urban divide, Minorities will be made equal partners in development. Madrasa modernisation will be taken up. Government is committed to 33% reservation for Women in Parliament.
Broadband highways to reach all villages to make them e-enable. Social media will be used to make government more connected with the public, to make it a participative government. New policy will be formulated for holistic healthcare. To curb corruption, Lokpal will be strengthened. Government has already constituted an SIT on blackmoney. Kashmiri Pandits will be asked to return to the Valley.
High priority will be given to water security, irrigation and sanitation facility provision. As there are predictions of a sub-normal monsoon, contingency plans are being prepared. Job creation will be another high priority area. Tax regime will be rationlised and simplified. Manufacturing industry will get bigger importance and support. International collaboration and cooperation will be sought, a single window system will be introduced to facilitate faster processing. Ambitious infrastructure development programs will be introduced in the next ten years. North Eastern region will be given more importance. New states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be supported accordingly to include them in the mainstream of development.
Golden Quadrilateral of high speed trains will be developed connecting all the corners of the Country. Air connectivity to smaller towns will be encouraged. At the completion of 75 years of the Republic, there should be a “Pukka” house for every family. Conservation of Himalayan ecology will be a priority area. River Ganga is a symbol of pure culture, my government will take up steps to ensure a clean and pristine Ganga again. Under “e-Bhasha” vernacular literature and sacred texts will be digitalized. 50 tourist circles will be created. A National mission for beautifying and improving amenities in these locations will be implemented.
Role of Science and Technology is to improve quality of life. World class research centers will be set up in various areas to add to the development activity. Policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism will be followed. Reforms in defence equipment production will be taken up. India can become a global hub for defence equipment production, steps will be introduced to ensure that. While self reliant, self confident India will be an importance, friendly relations with neighbors, taking the rightful place in the World affairs will be a priority for the government with regard to foreign relations. I thank all the visiting heads of governments for the recent oath taking of ministers of the new government.
“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas” will be the motto of the government,” said the President. He was welcomed by PM Modi, Parliamentary affairs minister Venkayya Naidu and the Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan earlier.
