Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturdaylanded on the soil of Japan with an aim to strengthen the ties between the two emerging powers of the world. This official visit is the first bilateral strategic tour of Modi as PM.
Mr Modi’s special flight landed at the Kansai International Airport near Osaka, western Japan at around 2 PM. He was then headed to Kyoto to meet his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.
Prime Minister Modi had dinner with Mr Abe. An agreement has been signed between Varanasi and Kyoto to facilitate cultural exchanges between both sides.
Kyoto is the ‘Smart City’ of Japan on whose model Modi proposes to develop his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.
A bilateral meeting is scheduled forMonday in Tokyo, September 1 between the two nations during which many important agreements could be signed by both the nations.
Meanwhile, PM Modi will visit historic sites and an academic institution in Kyoto before moving to Tokyo.
