MOM hits a hundred today!

India’s first inter planetary Mars Orbiter Mission – MOM will complete hundred days in its journey to the red star today. It is 19 crore kilometers away from the earth right now, since its launch on November 5th last year. It will have to travel another 49 crore kilometers to get into the Mars orbit, which it will accomplish in another 210 days. That means, MOM will be in Mars zone by September 24th this year.

Releasing a statement on the milestone, ISRO said, every communication being sent to MOM from ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), is reaching MOM 55 seconds later. MOM has received one course corrections so far of the four needed in its long journey.

This will be ISRO’s most ambitious missions so far.
