MPs Salaries to be Hiked

indianparliamentThe salaries of the members of Parliament are soon to be doubled up. The parliamentary affairs committee has already sent its proposals to this effect to the finance department. According to the proposals an MP’s salary will be increased to Rs. 1 lakh from the present Rs. 50 thousand. Likewise the allowances towards the expenses of office and constituency are to be doubled up to Rs.90 thousand from the present Rs.45 thousand. Other allowances will be paid to the tune of Rs.1 lakh. Hence a member of Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha will soon get a overall monthly salary of Rs.2.8 lakhs. But the paradox is many MPs do not want their salaries to be hiked, as they will invite income tax problems. Previously the MPs salaries were hiked in 2010. The proposals may be introduced in the parliament during the budget session in February.
