Mumbai Indians shocked the unopposed Super Kings on its home pitch checking Chennai with a six wicket difference. Rayudu and Pandya in their last over hammered magnificent sixes. Pandya was declared the player of the match for his key role in the victory. Both the teams had equal victory chances to make 30 runs in 12 balls. With Negi’s 19th over the match shape was changed as Mumbai captured 25 runs and thereafter the match turned into a one-sided affair. While Pandya hit three sixes, Rayudu struck a six when the last ball was bowled. Chennai team was expected to meet the target with five runs in the last over.
Pandya took a single when Bravo bowled the first ball and Rayudu scored a four in the second ball. The Rayudu-Pandya combine led the team to a stunning victory even as four balls were still remaining. Pandya played a key role in the match claiming 21 runs in eight balls. Earlier, after winning the toss Chennai chose batting. Mek Kallam and Dwen Smith made 44 runs for the first wicket. Kallam who made hat trick fours in Vinay Kumar’s bowling, played short pitch ball and was trapped by Pandya. Suchith dismissed Raina in super form for 10 runs and in the next over he claimed the wicket of Smith too. Then entered Dhoni-Negi pair. A target of 159 runs in 20 overs was fixed by Chennai. While Dhoni made 39 runs in 32 balls, Negi scored 36 runs in 17 balls. Mumbai scored 12 points with this match and claimed fourth place in the pool and retained playoff prospects.
On the other, despite a defeat the Super Kings still continued in the top place in the pool.
