Mumbai Indians stormed into the final of the IPL 8 with a 25-run win over the Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier at the Wankhede on Tuesday. After winning the toss Mumbai took up batting and made 187 runs in 20 overs for six wickets. Openers Simmons and Parthiv Patel made light of Chennai bowling. Simmons hit five sixes and three boundaries to make 65 runs in Jadeja bowling and reached pavilion. Parthiv also made 35 runs. Still the middle order could not add up any more runs. With high hopes on Pandya, Rohith Sharma, Rayudu returned to the pavilion early.
But middle order batsman Pollard slammed five sixes in his good innings of 41 which took just 17 deliveries coming. Chennai received a jolt when it entered with a target of 188 runs. Dane Smith was duck out in Malinga bowling. Another opener Mike Hassi also returned to the pavilion early after 16 runs show. The middle order batsmen Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina failed in their attempt to put the innings on the track. Raina at 25 run score was caught in Harbajan’s bowling and captain Dhoni fell leg-before for a duck out in the first ball itself. Chennai tasted defeat after Bravo, Negi, Ravindra Jadeja also failed with 162 runs in 19 overs. While Malinga claimed three wickets in Mumbai overs, Harbajan and Vinay Kumar took two wickets each. Suchith, Mec Lagahan also got a wicket each. Polard received the man of the match award. If Chennai wins another qualifier chances are that they would go to finals and they are going to check their luck with the victorious eliminator match on May 22.
