State election Commissioner Ramakanth Reddy announced the beginning of the poll season with the release of Municipal poll schedules just a while ago. The Municipal polls have been pending in the state since 2010. The State High Court first and then the Supreme Court have took strong objections last month with regard to local governance being mishandles without polls for over four years in the state. After the interference of the Supreme Court, the state found it self in an embarrassing situation and now faces a unique situation of local, assembly and Lok Sabha elections being conducted around the same time.
The elections will be conducted in 146 municipalities, 10 corporations instead of the entire 158 municipalities and 19 corporations in the state. This session of polls will be fought party based, the state EC declared.
There would be 9 thousand 15 polling stations, entirely EVMs will be used, polls will be held the same day across state, there are 95 lakh voters.
Polling will be on March 30th, April 1st will be reserve poll day, counting will take place on April 2nd.
For Corporations, 10th to 13th nominations will be accepted, for municipalities it will be 10th to 14th, scrutiny of the applications will happen on 15th, withdrawal will be allowed upto 18th of March.
