Telangana Writers Forum president, well known poet, novelist and linguist, Dr. Nalimela Bhaskar has been awarded the prestigious Kendriya Sahitya Academy award. The award was announced in translation category to the Karim Nagar based degree teacher for a novel he translated from Malayalam The original novel written by Punnattil Kunjabdulla was titled “Smaraka Shilagal”, Dr. Bhaskar translated it into Telugu under the title “Smaraka Shilalu.” Dr. Bhaskar is the second person to win this award from the region after Late Sri PV Narasimha Rao who had won it for his translation novel “Veyi Padagalu”.
Dr. Bhaskar is known as a multi linguist, just like PV Narasimha Rao, with a mastery over 14 languages. Dr Bhaskar has started his efforts in language in ’70s, around the same time he published his first compilation of songs titled “Maanavudaa…!” He published works in different formats like poetry, songs, fiction, translation, historical research and dictionary compilation too.
Dr. Bhaskar has expressed great satisfaction in being awarded the prestigious prize in the New Telangana. He would work on a complete Telangana dialectic dictionary apart from thesaurus on works of Telangana writers like Palkuriki Somana, Potana, Rama Dasu, he announced speaking on the occasion. He has called for more work to be done by young writers to take Telugu literature to other Indian languages.
