Padma Sri awardee Nana Patekar celebrated his 64th birth day yesterday. While speaking to the media on the occasion, he said that awards like Bharat Ratna should be given to people who have devoted them selves to their causes without expecting any thing in return. He mentioned Ambedkar, Maharshi Karve, Baba Amte as such persons. Actors, and sportspersons work is also dedicated but they get money in return for their efforts, hence they should not be the first choice for such awards, he opined. “…if the government still wants to confer it on a sportsperson, it should be given to Dhyan Chand,” said Patekar.
He felt that he himself may not be a deserving recipient of the Padma Sri he was given earlier last year.
Nana has acted in over 50 films in a career that started in 1978, and has won best actor award multiple times.
