Nehru’s tryst with destiny speech deleted from textbooks in Rajasthan

nehruContinuing its anti- Nehru policy, the Rajasthan government has reportedly deleted a lesson from its class IX Social Science text books on India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s historical speech- ‘Tryst with Destiny’ which he made on the midnight of August 14, 1947. The BJP government has already deleted his pictures, illustrations and has given just passing remarks on Nehru.

State Education Minister Vasudev Devnani labored hard to explain that Nehru’s name appears on page 91 and 177 of the textbook, but a closer perusal showed that these references did not cover his role in the freedom struggle and later as India’s first Prime Minister, according to a report in the media.

Vasundhara Raje government is trying to undo what they believe has been Congress Party’s monopoly over India’s modern history in which members of the Nehru-Gandhi family are excessively glorified.
