New excise policy ready

liquor imageSteps are being taken to implement the new excise policy. Government has decided to sell cheap liquor bottles for Rs 15 and Rs 30 to replace ‘gudumba’ in villages through one wine shop only in each mandal. CM is understood to have agreed to the proposal for lowering VAT and other taxes for sale of cheap liquor in the range of Rs 30 to Rs 60. At present 160 percent VAT is levied and efforts are to limit it to 70 percent and privilege fee from wine shop owners is also likely to be reduced. Wine shops will be open from 10 am to 11 pm and bars will be open from 10 am to mid-night. Notification for wine shops will be issued on August 26 or 27 and licenses will be issued on lottery system, according to excise officials.
