Finance Minister Eetela Rajnder is planning for issue of new food security cards shortly. As part of certain reforms to be introduced, the minister discussed with top officers concerned for utilising the modern technology in order to check rampant corruption in the civil supplies department.
He also decided for bringing in GPS, bio-metric technology to prevent corrupt practices in the civil supplies.
Mainly the minister was concerned over the ration dealers’ manipulations and concentrated on how to control their activities. He warned dealers that they shall be jailed if they did not supply the rice intended for poor or diverted the rice for illegal sale.
So also steps to be taken to curb illegal transport of rice figured in the discussions. While referring to the security cards, he assured that efforts were on for issue of all the commodities at a time.
Rajender also decided to continue supply of fine rice to hostel students during the next academic year.
