The Mayor elect Bonthu Rammohan and the Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin are to assume office on Friday. Both were elected unopposed on Thursday after the swearing ceremony of the corporators, as the opposition parties did not field their candidates due to lack of numerical strength. The MIM supported the candidature of the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. The corporator of Venkateswara Colony Mannem Kavitha proposed the name of Bonthu Rammohan and the Meerpet corporator Anjaiah seconded. Baba Fasiuddin’s name was proposed by Ameerpet corporator Seshu Kumar and was seconded by Ram Nagar corporator Srinivas Reddy. The collector and presiding officer Rahul Bojja declared the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor elected. All the corporators took oath in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu and English. The Mayor, after being elected, said that good roads was his priority. He accused the earlier governments for continuing the 150 year old drainage system of the Nizam, which over flow at many places in the city. He assured that the GHMC would make Hyderabad a world class city with the cooperation of the chief minister.
It is a raw deal for women as no woman was considered either for the mayor or deputy mayor posts though the TRS reserved 50 percent of the seats for women.
