The New Year was celebrated with pomp both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad city, known for its cosmopolitan culture, celebrated the new year in a novel way. Pubs and resorts were colourful and the young and the old welcomed the new year by cutting cakes and partying. The people wished ‘happy new year’ to one another and the celebrations which began in the evening continued till midnight. The Commissioner of Police Mahendar Reddy welcomed the new year and cut the cake with the police. He called upon the people to celebrate a merry new year.
The Telangana districts too wore a festive look on the new year eve. Minister Mr. Harish Rao cut cake with the students at government hostel at Siddhipet and wished them happy new year. People celebrated new year in the districts of Nalgonda, Adilabad and Karimnagar.
In Andhra Pradesh Visakhapatnam was the centre of attraction for new year celebrations. Large numbers of people gathered at the sea shore disregarding the biting cold and welcomed the new year with crackers and fire works. The scintillating dances by movie, tv stars especially Monica Thompson and models at a fashion show on the sea shore was a special attraction in the celebrations.
