Nihal Bitla, who hit the national headlines after a facebook post by him revealed his rare disease called Progeria, died in the wee hours of Tuesday at Karimangar in Telangana. A native of the town, he was here to attend a family marriage function. He complained of dehydration, may be due to hot summer, and was hospitalized. He breathed his last well past mid-night.
Nihal was face of Progeria in India. He looked like a 90-year-old man due to this disease. Nearly 150 people, including 60 from India, have been suffering from the rare disease.
He lived with this family in Bhiwandi, on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Members of family of Nihal said the teenager was suffering from arthritis for a long time and also faced multiple health issues in the past.
Nihal had met his icon and Bollywood star Aamir Khan in December 2015 after his Facebook post about his wish to meet his favourite actor went viral.
According to doctors, Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which ageing symptoms are seen at a very early age. Those living with this rare condition have a low life expectancy and generally do not survive beyond their early teenage years.
