Nitish wants quake proof buildings

nitish-kumar-close-afp_650x400_71424569778Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has estimated that nearly five lakh people would perish if earthquake with its epicentre in Patna strikes. With its epicentre in Nepal the two earthquakes claimed 70 lives in Bihar. He was of the opinion that planning should be done in advance to face such an earthquake. He ordered officers for construction of earthquake resistant buildings in future. Nitish held a video conference with officials of State disaster management. Officers were told to check-up whether the existing buildings followed safety norms. He has also decided to provide training to engineers and architects for constructing earthquake proof buildings. Japan developed a new building technique to overcome earthquake shocks with least losses to life and property. Stating that lessons must be learnt from them, he stressed the need to adopt such a technology.  However, there was a thinking that Nitish’s plans were frightening the people. His comments were said to be creating terror among people even while asking all concerned to plan well in advance for future protection.
