No cheap liquor business: Minister

PADMAExcise Minister Padma Rao made clear that State Government has not introduced any cheap liquor so far and on the other they have announced a war against the sale of ‘gudumba’ only to safeguard the interests of the consumers. Their effort what he said was to make available liquor at a cheaper rate and lower tax due to which government would suffer hundreds of crores of revenue. Fumed at the Opposition leaders’ stand, the minister pointed out that they jumped to the conclusions, made hue and cry to start a movement and dharnas in the absence of any concrete decision taken. There is much ado about nothing, he opined. He was also categorical saying that they never mentioned that liquor would be sold in general stores, kerosene shops and set up village-wise liquor shops. Their apprehensions are baseless, said Padma Rao and clarified that he himself is a Gowd and cannot see the nation suffering from losses more so the toddy tappers. He also questioned whether they had helped the toddy tappers in the past and now they indulge in tall talks.
