‘No detentions in schools’

Kadiyam-300x225The TS government is in favour of continuing the non-detention system in schools, Education Minister Kadima Srihari told the Opposition leaders at an all-party meeting which was called to seek the opinion of leaders on detention system. The Central Advisory Committee sought the opinion of States in this context. Detentions were cancelled in 1970 with a view to improving literacy, but Opposition demanded better facilities in government schools if government is sincere and true to its salt. Leaders were opposed to detentions as it would hit poor students and pointed out that education department was completely neglected by earlier governments.
