Scientists from Finland and Estonia have devised an examination of blood which might indicate the probabilities of death to happen within five years! They are saying the presence of certain biological markers – albumin, alpha-1-acid glycoprotein, citrate and the size of low-density lipoprotein particles more in number than normal indicates certain weakness which can lead to even death.
The scientists have checked a sample of over 17,000 persons who have died due to heart complaints or cancer or due to any undetected illness in a young age. The blood screening was done in a method called NMR spectroscopy. The study is published in PLOS Medicine journal.
Other factors like age, weight, tobacco and alcohol use, cholesterol levels and pre-existing illnesses may also have played a role, the scientists said. More studies on these findings could lead to a method to identify underlying illnesses in healthy looking individuals who might die suddenly if not treated.
