Must be wondering how Bhagat Singh, who died 82 years ago, could fight Jamaat Ud Dawa mastermind Hafeez Saeed? But it is true, our neighbor, Pakistan’s general population is fighting to name the famous Fawara Chowk in Lahore after Bhagat Singh. The reason is that the fearless young sikh was hanged in this very chowk 82 years ago. But none other than JUD chief, the Islamist hardliner Sayeed is the most vocal opponent to this proposal.
Yet the liberal Lahore populace is fervently asking authorities to name the maidan after Bhagat Singh and honor him as a true son of Lahore. None other than Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewary revealed this in his tweet yesterday. Mr. Tewary himself is from Punjab’s Ludhiana.
