The ruling TDP’s ministers and legislators have been pressurising the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to name the capital according to their choice, before the official announcement by the state government on the location of new capital.
A group of leaders, Devineni Umamaheswar Rao from Krishna district and agriculture minister Prattipati Pulla Rao and senior TD MLA Dhoolipalla Narendra from Guntur district have asked CM to name the capital after former CM and founder of TDP, NTR.
They asked the CM to name the capital as NTR Ngar of Tarakrama Nagar. Mr Pulla Rao said the farmers are ready to give 8,000 acre, if the new capital is named after NTR.
However, few legislators from the ruling party have opposed any move to name the capital as NTR Nagar, as a slum area in Hyderabad is named NTR Nagar. A MLA said, “We are going to construct a world-class capital city and its name should recall the historical background of the state and not a slum area,” said one of them”.
Another MLA proposed ‘Amaravati’ as the name for capital and he also started collecting signatures from other MLA’s in support of Amaravati.
