World was stunned and there were many broken hearts after seeing the photo of a one-year-old toddler, who was greatly emaciated and riddled with worms, was given a sip of water by an aid worker in Nigeria in January this year. The boy was abandoned to die by his parents as they thought he was a witch, cursed by the God and does not deserve to remain in the world.
For eight long months, the boy had to fend for himself and in the process lost so much of his weight and almost reached a stage of death. That was exactly on January 31 when the worker- Ms Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish woman working in Africa, has found him on streets and named the boy as “Hope”. She took him, who was disoriented, to a hospital where the doctors removed the worms from his stomach and conducted daily blood transfusions to incorporate more red blood cells into his body. When Ms Loven called for help for his treatment, donations poured in- totalling a whopping $1 million- from across the globe.
The boy slowly recovered and is now looking extremely healthy, playing along with other kids.
Ms Loven uploaded new photos of Hope and wrote: ‘As you can see on the pictures, Hope is really enjoying his life now having 35 new brothers and sisters who ALL take such good care of him, play with him, study with him, and make sure he is safe and is getting a lot of love.’
