Oscar Fernandes violates election code, case registered against former union minister

oscarAn FIR was filed today against Congress leader and former Union minister Oscar Fernandes for alleged violation of the code of conduct for the August 21 Assembly bypoll from Bellary Rural constituency.

The FIR was registered against Fernandes after electoral officials found him appealing for votes along with Christian priests, in favour of Congress candidate N Y Gopalkrishna. It has been registered under Section 123(3) (relating to corrupt practice) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, police said.

By-polls are scheduled for two assembly seats of Karnataka, namely Shikaripura and Chikkodi-Sadalga seats, for 21 August.
