It is a momentous occasion for the actor Sanjay Dutt who walked free from Yeravada prison in Pune after completing 42 months of incarceration. Though he was sentenced to five year imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, he was released well ahead of the period due to his good conduct.
Soon after coming out of the jail with a bag, he touches soil and salutes the tricolor which has been hoisted atop the prison. This is a symbolic gesture by the actor who has been accused of hobnobbing with the terrorists and traitors in 1990s.
He earned Rs 440/ by making paper bags inside the jail
“There is no easy walk for freedom my friends…. I am released because of my fans” he told a group of media personnel outside the jail.
He was received at the jail by wife Manyata Dutt and Director Raj Kumar Hirwani.
He took a chartered flight from pune to Mumbai, went straight to Siddi Vinayak temple first and visited his mother Nargis Dutt’s graveyard before going home.
A PIL was filed in Supreme Court a few days back challenging his release.
